BusiWall

Follow these steps and you are done in a few minutes.
1
Step 1Measure the wall and enter it, then drop in the artwork. Measure at three heights: at the floor, halfway and at the ceiling, and take the largest. A wall that looks straight is often a centimetre wider at the top, and that centimetre is exactly the one you will be missing.
2
Step 2Now the roll. A wall of four metres cannot go on in one piece: the roll is at most a hundred and thirty wide, so panels it is. Set the roll width and the overlap per seam. Two centimetres is usual, and it is not waste: panels are hung overlapping and then double cut, which is what makes the seam invisible. The tool keeps the panels equal and uses as few as it can.
3
Step 3This is the step the tool exists for. Look at where the seams fall on your own image and drag until none of them runs through a face, a logo or a word. The first panel gets wider or narrower and the rest divide up evenly again, so every seam moves along. Do it now: after printing it cannot be fixed.
4
Step 4Then say where the light comes from. An overlap seam is never perfectly flat, and raking light from a window draws a shadow line on exactly that ridge. So you start hanging on the window side and work away from it, and every panel edge points away from the light. The tool numbers the panels in that order, and the arrow shows which way you are going.
5
Step 5Last, take the hanging plan with you. It has the panels numbered in hanging order, how wide each one is, where it starts on the wall, how many running metres of roll you need, the total overlap and the offcut strip left over from each panel. Watch that last one: a wall of four metres on a roll of a hundred and thirty leaves twenty-six centimetres per panel, and if it goes over a quarter of the roll the tool names a width that fits this wall better. Print it and hand it to whoever is standing on the ladder.
