Step 1Drop in your photo. JPG, PNG, WEBP and TIF all open; everything is worked out inside your own browser, so no customer photo ever leaves your computer.

Step 2The tool reads the background colour from the four corners. Is that not it? Pick the colour yourself, or switch on the pipette and click the colour away in the picture. Every click takes one more colour out, so a background with a gradient or with blotches comes off in a few clicks.

Step 3Now the edge. A half transparent pixel is a MIXTURE of your subject and the old background, so cutting it off straight gives a jagged edge. The tool works out the subject back out of that mixture and keeps the partial transparency. Widen the edge for hair, keep it narrow for a hard-edged product shot.

Step 4Check it on a coloured backdrop, and do it before you print. On white a bad cut-out looks fine, because the pale rim left over from the old background disappears against the white. Put the same photo on a blue banner and there is a halo around your subject. Click through black, orange and your own colour here and you see it straight away.

Step 5The price works itself out while you design. You can change the rates yourself.

Step 6Save it as a PNG with real transparency, ready to drop into your design. The partial transparency at the edge is kept, so the cut-out still looks right on whatever colour it lands on.

Step 7Pro members unlock the tool once through the shop. After that it works offline too.

Step 8Put your own prices and payment details in the shop, and share your shop link with customers.
