Step 1Open the tool. There is nothing to install, and it keeps working without internet.

Step 2Start with the room. Enter the inside width and depth in centimetres, the wall thickness and the ceiling height; the walls are drawn around those measurements. Everything you place afterwards is measured against them, so this is the step that decides whether the plan is true.

Step 3Place the furniture. Click a symbol and it drops into the middle of the plan; drag it where you want it. Every symbol carries its real size, straight from the shop: a double bed is 160 by 200, a kitchen unit is 60 deep, a toilet is 37 wide. Turn a piece with the rotate button, or type an exact position.

Step 4Mind the room around the furniture. A cupboard needs space in front of it to open, a kitchen unit needs about 90 centimetres to stand and work, a bed needs a free side to get in, and a door has to swing open into empty space. Select a piece and that space appears as a dashed area; the check tells you when something is in the way.

Step 5Read the check. It measures the thinnest line of your letters at the real size and tells you whether the chosen tool can do it, before you order.

Step 6The price works itself out while you design. You can change the rates yourself.

Step 7Download the plan as a PDF at scale. Not a picture of a plan: every millimetre on the sheet matches the centimetres you entered, there is a scale bar to measure against, the room dimensions are on the drawing and a legend lists what is in it. Pick the sheet size and the scale first; the tool says whether it fits.

Step 8Pro members unlock the tool once through the shop. After that it works offline too.

Step 9Done, or something went wrong? Open the dashboard and start over with a clean sheet.
